Intro

Photo Site up and running

Chris (Yorkshire Merlin) put me onto a great photo gallery service www.zenfolio.com

They have a 14 day trial to test out the photo service. After uploading about 40 photos and organising them into categories I found the admin system was really easy to use. A great feature is the rss feed of all your photos, This should make it a sinch to spread your photos far and wide.

There are many different themes and layouts to choose from. What I'm looking forward to is being able to make a custom style, as this is a feature Zenfolio are looking to launch.

Before Iforget the url for this gallery is http://photos.stuntrocket.com

Let me introduce myself…. My name is David Walton. I have been working for the past 10 years as a Web Designer. Time flies when you are having fun!

I have long had an interest in photography, design, technology and the process of design coming from a graphic arts background. Now having designed and built more sites than I can remember (be it commercial /content managed or brochure sites…) I am knowledgeable and experienced in website production and I am an expert in the design and production of e-commerce sites.

I currently work for Chapter Eight as a Web Designer. Prior to Chapter Eight I worked in the newspaper industry for four years, first at Lancaster and Morecambe Newspapers where I developed the newspapers' first websites as well as producing websites for local businesses. I then moved to Yorkshire Post Newspapers where I was appointed Group Web Designer working on the 'this is' branded sites also designing microsites, database driven sites and e-commerce sites.

My role at Chapter Eight involves managing & designing ecommerce and content managed sites for small to medium sized companies. I work closely with developers creating new features and improving existing customers websites, often by improving the usability to increase business from their websites. I analyse site trends, find what works for the site and implement it.

In my spare time I enjoy listening to web related pod casts and I am currently listening to Boag World and .net. I am planning on writing a blog focusing on setting up open source ecommerce sites and the pitfalls, along with how to improve sales through analytics so watch this space.

I also have a couple of books on the go:

Ellen Lupton’s’ Thinking with type, hopefully a book that will enable me to utilise the principles of typography! I am also reading Making and Breaking the Grid by Timothy Samara, which is all about effective layout.

Portfolio

Below are a selection of websites I recently designed and produced as project leader. All of these sites are built using Chapter Eights content managment framework. Where I have worked closely with C8's development & designer colleagues.

Sock Shop

Almost everyone has seen Sock Shop. It is the number one place to buy unique socks. They used to be found in the highstreet, train stations and airports but just over a year ago they moved all their sales online. This was a was bold and daring move, which has certainly paid off. This is Sock Shop's third site revision. Each revision has surpassed the last. The most recent revision was sparked by a usability study which highlighted some holes which have since been plugged.

As everyone sense of direction is failing Sat Nav Express is filling the gap. They specialise in offering a wide range af Sat Navs at great prices. This site was designed to stand out in a competitive market. With simple clean layouts and a clear visual language the purpose of Sat Nav Express is clear. This site standards compliant with a subtle mix of mooTools.

The Lewis Group

Looking deeper into debt recovery and investigations" is The Lewis Group's strapline. The goal of this site is to attract businesses to use their debt recovery services. The design is based around the five colours which are themed throughout each of the services. This colour scheme was implemented using body ids and css sprites to make each service unique. You will find my first implementation of google maps to show where the business locations are.

Commercial property locations are becoming harder to find. United Coop property group are using their website for gathering leads to find new sites for their shops. This site educates vistors on what type of property and locations they are hunting for. www.unitedacquisitions.co.uk has been successful in generating new leads. The design is lightweight in css and xhtml. I have used a mixture of javascript to add a little bit of pizzaz.

You're probably here because you were given a moo card with www.stuntrocket.com on the back.

The thing about I love about moo cards is that no two cards are the same and they're great to swap. If you're wondering where you can create your own visit moo.com
